A Short Story
Jamaica & Crimea · 19th Century

Born around 1805 in Kingston, Jamaica, Mary Jane Grant grew up watching her mother — a free Black Jamaican woman — run a boarding house for invalid soldiers and officers, treating them with traditional Caribbean herbal remedies. From childhood, Mary absorbed every remedy, every herb, every method. Healing was in her blood.
